The Moments That Defined Lumens
2023 was another big year for Lumens, filled with innovation and engagement in the lighting and design world. Sustainability and collaboration became central themes of the year, as we reconnected with designers here in California, in New York City and around the world. Together, we highlighted environmentally conscious design strategies and materials while learning more about the ins- and outs- that make great design perpetually compelling—directly from the brightest minds in design like Piero Lissoni, Marcel Wanders, Colin King and more.
From embracing LEDs to amplifying previously unheard voices and even following our favorite designers for a day, these are our top moments of 2023.
Lumens Commits to LED
Chute Calypso LED Pendant + Sirius LED Chandelier by Kuzco Lighting
To start the year, we made the pledge to exclusively offer LED lighting – eight months ahead of the United States’ federal ban on incandescent bulbs. We’ve always believed that good design can be good for the planet too.
Women in Design
Lumens hosts the Women in Design Summit
This year, we dedicated our spring Design Event to championing women in design. Combining in-depth interviews and exclusive collections, the event honored women’s perspectives across the industry. Our panel discussions showcasing the approaches of women designers and design executives from around the world were captivating conversations about perspective, design and our collective future.

Great designs are timeless but there’s still a first time for everything, and this May marked a momentous first for Lumens, becoming the inaugural online retailer of the iconic brand B&B Italia in North America. Their luxury upholstery was an instant hit with the Lumens design community, inspiring the addition of Potrona Frau, Cappellini and others to our catalog.

“Sustainability” is more than a buzzword to us, which is why we launched the Lumens Guide to Sustainability this June. In addition to primers on sustainable design and How-To’s for updating spaces of all sizes, we continue to spotlight the makers and design initiatives that exemplify the motto: Good design is sustainable design.
